Old Forge

For a relaxing holiday break surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Cranbourne Chase, come to The Old Forge near Compton Abbas. This is an old 18th century Blacksmith and Wheelwright’s Workshop that has been sensitively converted into delightful self-catering holiday cottages. If you fancy getting back-to-nature, choose a glamping experience in our Shepherd’s Huts and Gypsy Caravan.

Our 2 cottages are elegantly furnished and decorated with antiques and artefacts from their former function. The Smithy has an attractive sitting room with beamed ceilings, sofa, wood burning stove and a dining area. The double bedroom is situated in the gallery area. The Wheelwrights is a cosy cottage for 2 with views across the orchard. Both are equipped with Freeview TV, Wifi, kitchens with dishwasher and an outside seating area. A welcome hamper of basic groceries and homemade preserves will be waiting to help you settle in.

Mabel and Sam are our Shepherd’s Huts and Rosie is our Gypsy Caravan, with a shared glamping kitchen nearby. Travel back in time at our Old Tuck Shop selling traditional favourites and see our vintage classic car memorabilia. We also offer classic car meet ups and dogs are welcome by agreement.
