Town Information

Castle Douglas is a busy market town in the east of the Dumfries and Galloway region in southern Scotland. It is located between Dalbettie and Gatehouse of Fleet, along the A75, about 18 miles from Dumfries. Castle Douglas is built next to is Carlingwark Loch, with its islands and which is great for sailing. There is a playground by the loch and at the far end is National Trust Threave Garden, House and Estate, open to visitors all year. Threave Castle, the great fortress of the Douglases, can be reached by ferry. Nearby is Threave Wildfowl Reserve, an important place for wintering wildfowl.

The main shopping street in Castle Douglas is King Street. It has a wide range of shops, including many shops not often found on many town high streets. Castle Douglas has two supermarkets and a convenience shop. Also on King Street are Italian, Chinese and Indian restaurants, as well as pubs and takeaways. Castle Douglas is designated Scotlands Food Town and boasts some 50 outlets connected with the food industry. Parking in the town is free.
