Helston is simply a lovely town found at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of Penzance. The former stannary and cattle market town is best known for the annual Furry Dance (known locally as the Flora Dance), said to originate from the medieval period and held in May every year. Today Helston has a lively, friendly atmosphere with a busy main street and plenty of historical attractions that keep the town’s heritage alive; and as you meander past the thick set miner’s cottages, numerous pasty shops and old pubs, there is a real traditional Cornish feel to the place. The boating lake and park are great for families, plus there's a skate park and cafe. Take the fascinating ‘Town Trail’ and go back in time to explore Helston’s past.
