Built in the 18th century, Old Higher Lighthouse on the Isle of Portland, was used for its original purpose until 1906. Portland is part of the 95-mile stretch of the southern English coastline known as The Jurassic Coast, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island is joined to the mainland by a causeway and the famous Chesil Bank, an 18-mile stretch of shingle running from Portland to West Bay.

The lighthouse has four cottages within its grounds, and it is Branscombe Lodge Cottage and Stopes Cottage (both with one double and one twin bedroom), which have been beautifully restored, and are available for self-catering holiday lets.

Both cottages enjoy free parking, free Wifi, seasonal access to the outdoor heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and large ornamental gardens. Sitting almost on Portland Bill, Branscombe Lodge Cottage and Stopes Cottage are peacefully situated up a quiet track and offer spectacular views from the lighthouse tower.
