The Old Black Lion

The Old Black Lion Inn is a historic 17th Century Inn, situated close to what was known as the Lion Gate, one of the original entrances into the medieval walled town of Hay-on-Wye. It is believed that parts of the building date back to the 1300s. We are proudly accredited by the AA as a 4-Star inn.

The inn has 10 en suite bedrooms, situated in either the Main Building, the Coach House or the Cottage. The rooms are well-equipped and have direct dial telephones, television, Wifi, hairdryers, tea and coffee-making facilities. Our beamed Cromwell Suite has its own galleried seating area.

Our chefs serve up a mouth-watering menu every day, and use the finest seasonal and local produce. Eat in the Main Bar or in the Den which has easy chairs as well as dining tables. There is a pianist playing in the bar most Friday evenings. Choose from our wine list, or opt for a craft beer, lager, Herefordshire cider or cask ale. There is a car park to the rear of the inn.
