The Hill on the Wall

The Hill on the Wall is an award-winning Grade II listed farmhouse with luxurious guest rooms, tasty breakfast options and wonderful hospitality. Located near the village of Gilsland, just off the A69, this B & B is close to Birdoswald Roman Fort and Hadrian's Wall National Trail, on the Cumbria / Northumberland border. In the heart of Hadrian's Wall Country, in a hilltop location, the property has been part of the landscape since 1595.

The 3 beautiful bedrooms offer thoughtful décor, free Wifi, a TV, hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers, selection of magazines and welcome tray with a cafetiere of freshly ground coffee. Hadrian’s Retreat is a twin room with a sofa and private bathroom. Caligula’s Chamber is a king room with en suite shower room. Both of these rooms overlook Hadrian’s Wall. Flavian’s Folly is a twin room on the ground floor including an en suite shower room.

Guests are also welcome to relax in the spacious lounge with its sofas, armchairs, cosy wood burning stove and library of interesting books. There is a varied choice for breakfast, including a full cooked Cumbrian breakfast or smoked salmon, plus special options for vegetarian and vegan diets. This unique B & B has beautiful gardens, a patio, car parking and secure bike storage. Complimentary tea and scones are offered on arrival.
