Alford is a small market town in Lincolnshire at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and popular for walking, cycling and riding. The town has a range of good shops and refreshments are available in tea shops, cafes, takeaways, restaurants and inns. Market day in Alford is Tuesday. The main market is held in the market place with stalls of groceries and other small items. A craft market is held every August bank holiday in the grounds of the Manor House. A smaller weekly market is held in the Corn Exchange every Tuesday and Friday. European markets are also held on public holidays. Alford has one of several working windmills in Lincolnshire. The Five-Sailed Windmill was built in 1837 and you can take a tour and visit the shop in the old engine house. The town’s Manor House is one of the largest thatched manor houses in the country.
