Epping is a popular market town in Essex connected to London by the Central Line of the London Underground. The town is surrounded by Epping Forest and farmland and has many old buildings, some of which are Grade I and II listed. The centre of Epping around the High Street is a designated conservation area and there is a weekly market every Monday, dating back to 1253. Epping Forest stretches from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping. It is a landscape of national and international conservation importance and a significant wildlife habitat. Its features include the Grade II listed Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge and the remains of two large Iron Age earthworks at Loughton Camp and Ambresbury Banks. Epping Ongar Railway is Essex’s longest heritage railway, running from Ongar to North Weald and into Epping Forest. The local delicacy of Epping Sausages are still manufactured by Church's Butchers, who have been trading on the same site since 1888.
