The Fish Inn is situated in scenic Buttermere, a small village between Lake Buttermere and Crummock Water surrounded by mountains. Mary Robinson, born in 1778 and daughter of The Fish’s former landlord, was a well-known beauty and her story has been told in several novels, including Melvyn Bragg’s ‘The Maid of Buttermere’.

A warm welcome awaits from current hosts Jean and John Richardson and their friendly team of staff. The inn offers a great menu featuring excellent home-cooked food with a range of daily specials as well as vegetarian and gluten-free options. We proudly offer a selection of local ales including Jennings, Black Sheep and Keswick Brewing Co. There is seating both inside and out and a car park.

Stay at The Fish and you can choose from Double, Twin and Superior Rooms, all with en suite bath and shower facilities. A delicious full cooked breakfast is included in our rates. The Fish is a Visit England 4-Star rated inn and we welcome families, walkers and cyclists.

The area provides excellent low level walks, cycling, fishing and boating. For more experienced walkers and climbers, the mountain ranges surrounding the valley, such as Red Pike, High Stile and High Crag, alongside Fleetwith Pike, Rannerdale Knotts and Haystacks, provide high level walking and climbing.
