Otterburn is a small village in Northumberland, on the banks of the River Rede, near the confluence of the Otter Burn, from which the village derives its name. It lies within the Cheviot Hills about 16 miles (26 km) from the Scottish border. On the outskirts of the village you'll find the site of the famous Battle of Otterburn in 1388. Today you'll find a small, but vibrant community at the heart of the picturesque Redesdale Valley. Otterburn definitely has a sense of its own past, and one of its chief attractions is Otterburn Mill which contains a museum outlining the history of weaving and wool milling in the area. The village itself has a selection of local shops and pubs and there is a good selection of accommodation including hotels, B&Bs and cottages.
