Coldstream is a town that lies just inside the Scottish Borders on the River Tweed. Coldstream is synonymous with the regiment of the Coldstream Guards, the oldest in the British Army. There is a museum in the town detailing its history. The High Street is home to shops and period buildings and opens up to the market place, providing access to the river. The river is one of the world's finest salmon rivers and produces more fish caught to the fly than any other river in Britain. On the western outskirts of Coldstream is the Hirsel Estate and Homestead Museum. This excellent family day out offers an arts and crafts centre, tearooms and the Crafthouse Gallery, plus walks by the lakeside and river.
