Hotels, Guest accommodation, Self Catering & Camping in Holmrook
Holmrook is a village in West Cumbria on the banks of the River Irt, between the Lakeland fells and the Irish Sea. The village has a pub, petrol station, shop and post office. St Pauls Church has an Irish-style 9th century cross and memorials to the family of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll, whose real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. The Lutwidge family were former owners of the now-gone Holmrook Hall. The Lake District National Park is on the doorstep and a few miles away are the beaches of Seascale and Drigg. Head a little further north to St Bees, with its large sandy beach, promenade and to the towering red sandstone cliffs of the St Bees Head Heritage Coast, an important RSPB seabird reserve. Holmrook is a gateway to Scafell Pike, Wasdale Fells and Wast Water, and there are an amazing network of footpaths and activities for all outdoors enthusiasts in and around the area. Fishing for sea trout and salmon is also a popular local activity.
