Town Information

Beauly from the French beau lieu, meaning beautiful place, is a town in Inverness-shire set on the river Beauly. This is one of the best Scottish salmon rivers and while set in wonderful highland scenery it is only 12 miles from Inverness and its airport. Beauly lies on the north bank of the river close to the point at which it enters the Beauly Firth. The settlement grew up around Beauly Priory which was established here in 1230. The village of Beauly is great for a day out or a longer break and offers a range of excellent and varied shops, eating places, hotels and guest houses.  Beauly boasts its very own pipe band who perform in the square every Thursday evening during the summer. Muir of Ord is just three miles to the north, and is home to the famed Glen Ord Whisky Distillery.
