Crieff is a bustling market town in Perth and Kinross. It is the capital of Strathearn and has enjoyed royal connections throughout history. Prince William and Catherine Middleton are the current Earl and Countess of Strathearn and have famously sported the Strathearn Tartan. Crieff is a popular tourist destination, in a great location within the Perthshire countryside, straddling the Highland Boundary Fault and providing easy access to the mountains, glens and golf courses! Glen Turret Valley runs up into the hills behind the town, taking visitors to the dam of the reservoir which is the starting point for a number of high level hill walks. Attractions in the town include The Glenturret, home of ‘The Famous Grouse’ and Scotland's oldest working distillery, crafting single malt whisky since 1763, as well as the Caithness Glass Visitor Centre. Nearby Innerpeffray Library is Scotland's oldest lending library and the adjacent St Mary's Chapel dates from 1508. Both are open to the public. A foodie destination, Crieff has an excellent choice of cafés, coffee shops and restaurants catering for all tastes. There are also lots of interesting, independent family-run shops in the town.
