Tucked away in a natural valley in West Dorset, is the town of Beaminster, about 15 miles from Dorchester. Known for its history of linen and woollen manufacture, it is a charming town with plenty to see and do. The centre is full of welcoming pubs, independent shops and excellent eateries. This is coupled with some stunning architecture, including its striking tower, and a fascinating museum. The town has a busy calendar with events all year round including the Beaminster Festival which encompasses a week of good food, performances and the arts. Make sure to visit Mapperton House and Gardens, voted the Nation’s Finest Manor House by Country Life and location of the 2015 film Far from the Madding Crowd; a glorious Jacobean manor with Earl of Sandwich collection, overlooking a 15-acre garden with orangery, topiary and borders, descending to ponds and arboretum. Beaminster is located in the heart of excellent walking and cycling country, surrounded by some of Dorsets highest peaks. If you fancy something different, UK Llamas and Donkey Walking Adventures offer unique walking experiences with these gentle animals.
