Hotels, Guest accommodation & Self Catering in Corfe Castle
Corfe Castle is a village in Dorset, and the site of the castle ruins of the same name. The village and castle stand over a gap in the Purbeck Hills on the route between Swanage and Wareham, about 5 miles away from each. The ruins of Corfe Castle stand on a hill guarding the principal route through the Purbeck Hills. The village lies in the gap below the castle. The village buildings are made from local grey Purbeck limestone and comprises two streets, East Street and West Street, linked at The Square where you will find local shops, pubs, a post office and church. Separating the two main streets is an area of common land called The Halves. Corfe Castle Model Village, set in an acre of landscaped gardens, is an opportunity to see what the village and castle looked like before its destruction by Oliver Cromwells troops during the English Civil War. Visit The gallery at 41 and Boilerhouse Gallery which celebrate the work of Dorset artists. The Purbeck peninsula offers spectacular scenery, a World Heritage Coastline, the largest natural harbour in Europe at Poole, and some of the best walking country in the UK.
