Wooler is a town on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. It is popular with walkers as the ‘Gateway to the Cheviot Hills’. As well as many shops and pubs, the town boasts a youth hostel, hotels and campsites. It lies on the St. Cuthbert's Way long distance trail between Melrose Abbey and Lindisfarne. The foothills with their quiet back roads and bridleways are ideal for cycling, horse riding, fishing and rock climbing. To the east is the magnificent coastline which offers spectacular scenery. Closeby is also Chillingham Castle, rumoured to be one of the most haunted castles in Britain, and the fascinating Chillingham Cattle.
