Tyne and Wear comprises five diverse boroughs - Gateshead, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland; all of which are very worthy of exploration!

Gateshead is home to many cultural, artistic and commercial developments. The Angel of the North, The Gateshead Millennium Bridge, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, The Sage Gateshead and Gateshead Quays all symbolise the new image of the borough and the wider region. Newcastle-upon-Tyne is a city with a friendly atmosphere that is second-to-none and recognised the world over. There is always something going on whether it is at the magnificent Theatre Royal, City Hall or at the many fine bars, clubs and restaurants that the city has to offer.

North Tyneside has a rich culture steeped in the manufacturing industry. The famous Swan Hunter shipyard is located at Wallsend. The borough boasts a wealth of social and cultural activity from the Whitley Bay entertainment scene, to the Blue Reef Aquarium at Tynemouth or the Royal Quays Outlet Shopping.

South Tyneside attracts thousands of people to the area all year round to visit key cultural and historical places such as Arbeia Roman Fort, South Shields Museum (where a permanent Catherine Cookson exhibition is displayed), Souter Lighthouse and Marsdon Rock. Sunderland is the largest borough of Tyne & Wear. It plays host to the annual Sunderland International Air Show in the summer months. Notable attractions for visitors include the 14th century Hylton Castle, The National Glass Centre and the beaches of Roker and Seaburn.
