Welcome to Fort William, known as The Outdoor Capital of the UK. This popular town in the Scottish Highlands on the shores of Loch Linnhe, is home of Ben Nevis, The Great Glen, Glen Nevis, Steall Falls, Glencoe and Mallaig, providing some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. Fort William has a great range of shops and eateries. After a day in the great outdoors, you can put your feet up in a cosy traditional pub and enjoy a Highland single malt or a traditional ale. In the town centre, the West Highland Museum focuses on regional life and history. To the northeast, Ben Nevis Distillery explores whisky production. For a truly magical day out, hop aboard the Jacobite Steam Train. Fort William is a centre for hillwalking and climbing. Ben Nevis mountain track is easily accessed from the visitor centre in nearby Glen Nevis, with the ascent taking 8 hours on average. Nevis Range is the highest Scottish resort, with 20km of ski runs on the slopes of Aonach Mor. Fort William is also known for its downhill mountain bike track and hosts the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup every June. The town is home to the start / end of both the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way long distance paths. Old Inverlochy Castle in the town is now a ruin but was once one of the most important castles in Scottish history.
