Grantown-on-Spey is a town in the Scottish Highlands within the Cairngorms National Park, 14 miles from Aviemore. It is a great base for exploring the Strathspey area. The town square and High Street are lined with shops and businesses selling everything from clothes to whisky, fishing line to pottery. There are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants offering a wide range of meals, drinks and snacks. The town is surrounded by ancient woodlands which offer a unique habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. Anagach Woods is a unique Scots pine forest with an easily accessible network of paths for all abilities, including part of the Speyside Way and mountain bike trails. There are also numerous other walks and trails around the town which offer wonderful views over the surrounding hills and mountains. Situated halfway between the Cairngorm and Lecht ski areas, this popular holiday destination is popular in the winter season with skiers and snowboarders and is a great starting point for exploring the countryside. The town is also conveniently located for the 70-mile long famous Speyside Malt Whisky Trail. The town boasts many other attractions ranging from a superb 18-hole golf course to the Grantown Heritage Museum.
