Town Information

Plockton is an incredibly picturesque seaside town in the Highlands of Scotland in a sheltered bay with stunning views of Loch Carron and its surrounding mountains. It faces east away from the prevailing winds, meaning a mild climate. The village is a tourist resort and a popular location for many artists and photographers. It has a small general shop, a cafe, takeaway and restaurant; newsagent and craft shop; 3 hotels with pubs; library and a village hall, which holds community events and art exhibitions. It is served by a railway station and the Plockton Airfield for light aircraft and microlights. Things to do include walking holidays and summer boat trips for fishing or seal spotting. Wildlife in the surrounding areas of Plockton is abundant with Pine Martens, deer, and many bird species, and the lochs are inhabited by many seals, porpoises, otters and the occasional dolphin. It is an ideal base for exploring the Isle of Skye, and Eilean Donan Castle is close by, as well as the Five Sisters of Kintail for walkers. Craig Highland Farm has ancient breeds of Scottish farm animals as well as llamas and peacocks. Also close by is Lochalsh Woodland Garden. The BBC television series Hamish Macbeth was filmed in Plockton and used for various scenes in the film The Wicker Man and the Inspector Alleyn Mysteries television series.
