Chatham is a picturesque Kent town with a proud maritime heritage. Located on the fringe of the North Downs, near Rochester, it is on the lower course of the River Medway and attracts many visitors. There are lots of interesting places to visit, including Chatham Historic Dockyard, a maritime museum and birthplace of many famous ships including Nelson's flagship HMS Victory. Fort Amherse is Britain's best example of a Napoloenic Fortress, built to protect the former Royal Dockyard from a land-based attack. The Central and Brook Theatres present many great shows and there are galleries and exhibitions at the Nucleus Arts Centre and Sun Pier House. Take a guided tour and then sample some hand-crafted whisky, gin and vodka at the Chatham’s Copper Rivet Distillery. If you fancy something more adrenaline-fuelled, then Flip Out Trampoline Park and Buckmore Park Go Karting track are musts! For some retail therapy, Pentagon Shopping Centre and Dockside Outlet Park are full of great shops, eateries and leisure facilities.
