Machynlleth, known locally as Mach, is a bustling market town in Powys in the Dyfi Valley, known for its prominent landmark, the clock in the centre of town! The town has a large market on Wednesdays which includes traditional Welsh, Spanish and French food stalls. There is also a selection of independent shops and the town is well served by cafes, takeaways and pubs and a range of accommodation. A 9-hole golf course and pitch and putt are located in the town. Machynlleth is the home of the Museum of Modern Art, Wales, hosting the annual Machynlleth Festival, as well as its own open exhibition of art. The town also hosts the Machynlleth Comedy Festival. The arts are well served by the Tabernacle, a former Welsh Wesleyan chapel now a multi-arts complex featuring exhibitions, concerts and a festival each August featuring musicians from all over the world. Machynlleth provides exhilarating mountain-biking experiences. Waymarked routes of varying length and difficulty take you straight from the centre of town into some great mountain, forest and valley scenery. Just 3 miles north of Machynlleth is the Centre for Alternative Technology, with education and visitor centre. Machynlleth is an ideal base for exploring the Dyfi Valley, Snowdonia National Park, Tal-y-Llyn Railway, Clywedog Reservoir, the Vale of Rheidol Railway and Devils Bridge gorge in the Vale of Rheidol.
