Campbeltown, on the Kintyre Peninsula, is found at the head of a deep loch, sheltered by Davaar Island and surrounded by hills. The harbour is busy with leisure craft and fishing boats. Campbeltown Airport to the west provides a link with Glasgow Airport. Once the whisky capital of the world, today only three active distilleries remain in the town; Glen Scotia, Glengyle and Springbank, where visitors can enjoy a guided tour. Campbeltown has many fine buildings, including Town House on Main Street, built in 1760. Some of the most interesting buildings overlook the harbour, like the Campbeltown Picture House, known as the Wee Picture House; the oldest cinema in Scotland still showing films. Next door is the Campbeltown Library and Museum. Campbeltown Heritage Centre has stripy stonework and pinnacles and locally referred to as The Tartan Kirk. Campbeltown Cross is a magnificent stone cross covered by intricate designs including saints, animals and interlaced foliage. The town hosts the popular annual Mull of Kintyre Music Festival.
