Hotels, B&B's and Self Catering in Rochester

Rochester is a historic and beautiful town. Explore magnificent Rochester Cathedral, founded in 604, and enjoy breath taking views from the top of one of the tallest keeps in the country, at Rochester Castle. The cobbled streets are lined with historic buildings and many of them are open to the public, including The Guildhall and Corn Exchange. There are many ties between Rochester and author Charles Dickens. Shops, restaurants and some of the streets carry Dickensian names, thanks to the writer who set many of his stories here. Visitors can still see buildings he knew, including Restoration House, College Gate, Eastgate House, where Dickens’ own Swiss writing chalet is set in the garden, and Mr Topes House. Fans can also go to the nearby village of Cooling to visit St James’ Churchyard, inspiration for the opening chapter of Great Expectations. Shop for vintage bargains and treasures in the independent shops and quirky boutiques. Rochester also has plenty of choice when it comes to places to eat and drink.
