Totnes is a bustling historic market town in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town is said to have more listed buildings per head than any other town! Totnes Castle is a Norman motte-and bailey. The late medieval church of St Mary with its 120 feet (37 m) high west tower is visible from afar. Visit the Brutus Stone in Fore Street, which is set into the pavement, or Eastgate; an arch spanning the middle of the main street. Totnes offers a range of independent shops and eateries. You will find general markets on Fridays and Saturdays, an Elizabethan market each Tuesday morning (May-September), and the Sunday Good Food Market on the third Sunday of the month. Totnes is home to its very own local currency! Sharpham Vineyard in Totnes is a 550-acre estate on the banks of the River Dart where a range of English wines and fine cheeses are produced. To the north-west of Totnes is Dartington Hall Estate.
