Ledbury is a market town lying east of Hereford and west of the Malvern Hills. It has a significant number of timber-framed buildings, with a charm that has attracted tourists from the world over. At the centre of Ledbury, is the black and white Grade 1 listed Market Hall. Built in 1653 by the King’s Carpenter John Abel, it still hosts markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Church Lane is a visitors’ favourite, with cobbles underfoot and flanked by overhanging medieval buildings. It is home to two museums and a medieval painted room, a real ale pub and tea rooms. Other notable buildings include the parish church of St. Michael and All Angels, the Old Grammar School, the Barrett-Browning memorial clock tower, nearby Eastnor Castle and the St. Katherine's Hospital site founded in c.1231. Taking place over 10 days every July, The Ledbury Poetry Festival has become the leading poetry festival in the UK.
