Hotels, Guest accommodation, Self Catering & Camping in Witney
The large market town of Witney in the Cotswolds is on the River Windrush, 12 miles west of Oxford. Witney is famous for the manufacture of blankets, gloves, and other woollen goods and much of the town’s architecture reflects the past prosperity of the woollen trade, including the 17th century Butter Cross and church of St Mary the Virgin with its 150 feet spire. The high street runs from the Butter Cross and features the 18th century Town Hall, the Blanket Hall and the Victorian Corn Exchange. The town has a good range of shops and a twice-weekly market, as well as welcoming pubs, excellent restaurants, and many leisure facilities. Annual events include the autumn Witney Carnival and Witney Feast, nearby Eynsham Carnival, and Wychwood Forest Fair. Wychwood Brewery is open for public tours every weekend, where you will sample the flagship legendary Hobgoblin ruby beer.
