Swanage is a picturesque seaside town in south-east Dorset, with stunning views across to the Isle of Wight. Originally a fishing village, the town has grown into a very popular destination for visitors. It is found on the Jurassic Coast, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town has a rich history with many interesting buildings and two conservation areas, and a good selection of shops, pubs and eateries. Swanage has a fabulous award-winning beach, covered with white gold sand and crystal blue water, perfect for swimming and watersports. You can easily hire deck chairs, boats and other equipment on or near the beach. There is a traditional English Victorian pier, amusement arcade, or pay a visit to the Swanage Steam Railway. The town has a number of festivals during the year, including a carnival week in the summer. For music lovers, there is a jazz, folk and a blues festival. There are plenty of excellent days out in and around Swanage, including the Museum and Heritage Centre. Nearby, are Old Harry Rocks and Ballard Down, and Studland Bay and Poole Harbour are to the north. Durlston Country Park, Corfe Castle, Studland Beach and Nature Reserve and Shell Bay are all popular, not to mention the famous south-west coastal path!
