Mevagissey is a charming village which was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and which still boasts a working harbour. Fishing trips can be taken from the harbour, and there is a ferry to the nearby port of Fowey. In the narrow streets are gift shops, craft workshops, galleries, cafés and pubs. There are many fish restaurants and plenty of fish and chip shops! Visit The World of Model Railways Exhibition, Folk Museum and the aquarium which displays locally caught fish. At the end of June each year, Mevagissey celebrates ‘Feast Week’ with local entertainments and dancing in the streets. Mevagissey is also a convenient centre for local attractions as the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Its local coastal footpath offers some lovely walks, and along the coast are numerous coves and sandy beaches. Cornish bliss!
