Bridport is a market town, located a mile or so inland from the English Channel in the county of Dorset. This historical town is famous for its rope and net-making trade and is a great place to explore and stay for your holiday. As well as weekly Wednesday and Saturday markets selling delectable Devon produce and interesting knick-knacks, the town has farmers markets, vintage markets, lots of shops, great eateries, high street names and independent shops. There is an interesting town museum and Palmers Brewery, which has been brewing since 1794. It offers tours where you can sample its fine ales and their famous golden cap whisky! On the coast is West Bay, which is a fishing harbour on the Jurassic Coast within the town boundary. This has recently been made famous by the TV programme Broadchurch, which has used it as a location for filming. Bridport has a busy calendar throughout the year. The Food Festival takes places over a week in June, which concludes with the Round Table Beer Festival. The annual Bridport Carnival, Melplash Show (an agricultural exhibition), and Bridport Open Studios where local artists showcase their work, are all held in August. There is an annual Hat Festival in September, Literary Festival in November and even a Christmas Tree Festival in December!
